  • 12 oz ziti pasta
  • 1 lb spicy Italian sausage
  • 4 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Cook ziti pasta in salted boiling water until al dente; drain.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the sausage, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with half of the mozzarella and some Parmesan until smooth.
  4. Add marinara sauce to browned sausage; simmer for five minutes.
  5. In a baking dish, layer half of the pasta, half of the meat sauce mixture, and half of the cheese mixture. Repeat layers, finishing with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes; remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until bubbly.
