  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (chilled, cubed)
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 2 medium yellow onions (sliced)
  • 1 medium Granny Smith apple (diced)
  • 1 cup shredded aged cheddar cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. 1. Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in chilled butter until crumbly. Gradually add cold water until a dough forms.
  2. 2. Chill the Dough: Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. 3. Caramelize Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté onions until golden brown (about 20 minutes).
  4. 4. Add Apples: Stir diced apples into caramelized onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook for another 5 minutes.
  5. 5. Assemble the Tart: Roll out chilled dough into a tart pan. Pour onion-apple mixture into the crust and top with shredded cheddar.
  6. 6. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
