  • 9 lasagna noodles (oven-ready or traditional)
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz canned whole peeled tomatoes
  • 15 oz tomato sauce (no added sugar)
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded whole milk mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with chopped onion and minced garlic until cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, and basil; simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with an egg, salt, pepper, and some Parmesan.
  5. In a baking dish, spread some meat sauce at the bottom; layer with noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers until ingredients are used up, finishing with mozzarella on top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes; remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  7. Let cool slightly before slicing.
