  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 4 medium Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Dried herbs (thyme or rosemary)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat oil and sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent (about 3-4 minutes).
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet; cook until browned, breaking it up as you go. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. In a bowl, combine sliced potatoes with milk, melted butter, salt, and pepper until well-coated.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the potato mixture followed by half of the cooked beef mix. Repeat layers and top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
