Description

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1/2 lb pork sausage
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium carrot, grated
  • 1 stalk celery, finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz canned whole or crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/2 cup milk or cream
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onions, carrots, and celery; sauté until softened (5-7 minutes).
  2. Increase heat slightly and add ground beef and pork sausage; cook until browned, breaking up large chunks.
  3. Stir in minced garlic until fragrant. Add canned tomatoes with their juices.
  4. Pour in red wine to deglaze the pot, scraping up brown bits. Reduce heat to low, cover partially, and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  5. Stir in milk or cream about 10 minutes before serving. Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and basil.
