Description

Russian Tea Balls, also known as Snowball Cookies, are delicate, buttery treats rolled in powdered sugar. Perfect for any occasion, these melt-in-your-mouth cookies are a classic favorite!

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (plus extra for rolling)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts (or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and 1/4 cup powdered sugar together until light and fluffy.
    • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  2. Combine the Dry Ingredients:
    • Gradually add the flour and salt to the butter mixture, mixing until incorporated.
    • Fold in the chopped walnuts or pecans.
  3. Shape the Cookies:
    • Roll the dough into small 1-inch balls and place them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake:
    • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are lightly golden.
  5. Cool and Coat with Sugar:
    • Allow the cookies to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet, then roll them in powdered sugar while still warm.
    • Let them cool completely before rolling in powdered sugar again.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Once fully cooled and coated, enjoy these delicate cookies with a cup of tea or coffee.

Notes

  • You can substitute walnuts with pecans or almonds for a different flavor.
