Description

Poor Man’s Steak Diane is a budget-friendly gourmet dish that combines tender beef medallions with a creamy, rich sauce infused with savory shallots and mushrooms. Perfect for impressing guests or enjoying a cozy night in, this easy-to-make recipe delivers restaurant-quality flavors without the hefty price tag.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds beef round steak
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 shallots, finely chopped
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice beef round steak into thin medallions; season with salt and pepper.
  2. In a skillet over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Sear beef medallions for about 2 minutes on each side until browned; remove from skillet.
  3. In the same skillet, add remaining butter and sauté shallots until translucent (about 3 minutes). Add sliced mushrooms and cook until browned.
  4. Pour in Worcestershire sauce and heavy cream, stirring to combine while scraping up brown bits from the pan. Simmer until slightly thickened.
  5. Return seared beef to the skillet, coat with the sauce, and simmer for another minute.
  6. Serve immediately with extra sauce drizzled on top.
