Ingredients

For the Ribs
  • 2 pounds pork baby back ribs Remove the membrane from the back for better flavor absorption.
For the Dry Rub
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar Packed
  • 1 tablespoon paprika Smoked paprika adds a nice depth.
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper Freshly ground for best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper Adjust for spice preference.
For the Barbecue Sauce
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce Use your favorite brand or homemade.

Method

Prepare the Ribs
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). This ensures even cooking right from the start.
  2. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. This step is crucial as it allows the flavors of the rub to penetrate the meat better.
  3. Pat the ribs dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps the rub adhere better.
Make the Dry Rub
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to ensure even distribution of spices.
  2. Rub the spice mixture generously over both sides of the ribs. This not only adds flavor but also creates a nice crust when cooked.
Cook the Ribs
  1. Place the ribs in the air fryer basket, bone side down. Ensure they are not overcrowded to allow for proper air circulation.
  2. Cook the ribs at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. This initial cooking time helps to tenderize the meat.
  3. After 25 minutes, flip the ribs over and cook for an additional 15 minutes. This allows the top side to crisp up nicely.
  4. Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer. Ribs should reach at least 190°F (88°C) for optimal tenderness.
Glaze with Barbecue Sauce
  1. Brush the ribs with barbecue sauce during the last 5 minutes of cooking. This caramelizes the sauce and adds a delicious sticky layer.
  2. Once done, remove the ribs from the air fryer and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing. This helps retain the juices.
Serve
  1. Slice the ribs between the bones and serve with extra barbecue sauce on the side for dipping.
