Ingredients

For the Chai Concentrate
  • 4 cups water filtered
  • 4 teaspoons black tea leaves or 4 tea bags
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon or 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger freshly grated for better flavor
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom or 4 crushed cardamom pods
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly cracked
  • 1 cup sugar adjust to taste
  • 1 cup milk whole, almond, or oat milk
  • 1 cup ice cubes for serving

Method

Prepare the Chai Concentrate
  1. In a saucepan, bring 4 cups of filtered water to a boil. This step is crucial as boiling water helps to extract the flavors from the tea leaves and spices.
  2. Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and add the black tea leaves (or tea bags), ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cardamom, and black pepper. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Cover the saucepan and let the mixture steep for 10 minutes. This allows the spices and tea to infuse their flavors into the water.
  4. After steeping, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl or pitcher to remove the tea leaves and spices. Discard the solids.
  5. Stir in 1 cup of sugar while the chai concentrate is still warm, ensuring it dissolves completely. You can adjust the sweetness according to your preference.
Assemble the Iced Chai Tea Latte
  1. In a glass, add 1 cup of ice cubes. This will chill the drink quickly and keep it refreshing.
  2. Pour 1 cup of the prepared chai concentrate over the ice. The ice will cool down the concentrate, making it a perfect iced drink.
  3. Top off the glass with 1 cup of milk of your choice. Stir gently to combine the chai and milk, creating a creamy texture.
  4. Taste the latte and adjust sweetness if necessary by adding more sugar or sweetener.
  5. Serve immediately with a straw or a spoon, and enjoy your refreshing iced chai tea latte!
