Method
Prepare the Dressing
- In a mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, red wine vinegar, dijon mustard, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper.
- Whisk the ingredients together until well combined and emulsified. This will create a flavorful dressing that will enhance the sandwich.
Assemble the Sandwich
- Lay out the slices of Italian bread on a clean cutting board.
- Spread a generous amount of the dressing on each slice of bread. This adds flavor and moisture to the sandwich.
- On half of the bread slices, layer the salami, capicola, provolone cheese, chopped romaine lettuce, diced tomato, and sliced pepperoncini.
- Top with the remaining slices of bread, dressing side down, to create sandwiches.
Optional Grilling
- If desired, heat a sandwich press or grill over medium heat.
- Place the assembled sandwiches on the grill and press down gently. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.
Serve
- Remove the sandwiches from the grill and let them cool for a minute.
- Cut each sandwich in half and serve immediately with extra dressing on the side if desired.
