Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans and line them with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the softened butter until fluffy. Gradually add sugar and mix until light and airy.
- Incorporate eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition along with vanilla extract.
- Alternately add dry ingredients and milk into the butter mixture, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Stir gently.
- Divide batter into bowls; add food coloring to achieve desired shades.
- Pour colored batter into prepared pans in alternating layers or swirls. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool for ten minutes in the pans before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Frost between layers with buttercream frosting and decorate as desired.
- Serve at room temperature.
